I am sitting here on a windy Wednesday morning, trying to find words to describe and introduce myself to you.It is difficult to put into a single piece of text, all the things that fell into place that brought Penelope Frog to life. So let me start at as good a place as any, with a name:
Penelope is not my given name it has always been my alter ego and my love for frogs has had some call me The Frog Lady (due to my myriad of frog tattoos). In many ways it was a natural progression for me to become Penelope Frog.
My liking for unusual jewellery, accessories and home décor, often left me wanting for something more and that "something more" wasn't going to be found on the shelves of any store. I decided that if I could not find what I was looking for, I would just have to make it myself.
In 2011 after many requests, I found people wanted the same things I did and this is when I decided to start sharing my creations with the world. Thus Penelope Frog as a business came to life.
The main items in my Penelope Frog range are necklaces, earrings, clocks and coaster sets, which have a wider appeal to the public who like unique items with a twist.
I pride myself on not mass producing my creations and 95% of my items are once off, which means I am always branching out into new forms of self expression.
My Toy Box has been called macarbe, but I don't see it that way. I find beauty in old, broken and discarded things, especially old dolls - they remind me of the isolation we all feel at some point. I express myself through giving them a new lease on life through "death"...
I have never seen myself as a creative person especially since I am always surrounded by the most amazing art and artists. It took me a long time to realise that art does not have to be conventional. If you just look around you, even a crack in the wall screams beauty. Luckily the world is full of diverse and amazing people and where one sees grime, another finds beauty.
I don't always do things the easy way, the results may be rough at times but they are a reminder that it is one of a kind, a hand made creation.
Thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings, I would like to thank all of you for your support over the years. To my friends, family and my amazing customers, I hope you have a wonderful day
